And After the Fire is a novel about Bach (and Mendelssohn) written by a novelist who is married to a musicologist – so the story is fiction but everything surrounding it is true. A fictitious Bach manuscript is discovered and a young lady who inherits the mysterious gift tries to discover its past. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in knowing more about Bach, his descendants, anti-Semitism, and how Felix Mendelssohn is connected to Bach.
